A live action shot.
This was my compositing project from my first year at Escape Studios. This project was my first time using Nuke, so my main focus was to get used to using the node based system and learning different compositing tasks I would encounter as a compositor.
Everything in this shot was composited in Nuke, this was my first time learning lots of the common tasks. These tasks included: Clean up and removal of the plate, CG integration, Matte painting set extensions, Reprojection and addition of 2D assets. I used my Photoshop skills from my previous photography experience to create the matte painting set extension.
This is a breakdown of this shot. The hardest part of this shot was the removal of the red gas tank and then the reprojection of the fences infront of it. As this was my first experience with Nuke, I decided to push myself and include numerous other techniques within this shot, including Projected additions to the scene (the floor hole, the crack, and the broken pillar). Due to my submission requirements I included CG robotic caterpillars attached to the wall, but I also included CG of falling debris. The main part of this shot I enjoyed was the Matte Painting for the set extension which was done in Photoshop. Finally, I added birds to the set extension to increase the realism and make the static image feel more dynamic.
