Overview

This was my introduction to second year project at Escape Studios. For this project, I have undertaken every role, apart from filming the backplate. For the 3D side of things I modelled and textured the F1 Car from scratch and tracked the footage. As for the 2D side of things, I integrated the CG, cleaned up the window, added graffiti and replaced the sky.

Process

For this project, I used Autodesk Maya to model the car and Adobe Substance Painter to texture it. I used 3DEqualizer to track the stock footage, while I finished the compositing using Foundry Nuke. In Nuke, I colour graded the car to integrate it into the scene, used 3D projection to clean up the window with an intricate brick pattern, added the graffiti to the door and finally replaced the sky to match the overall colour of the shot.

Full breakdown

This is my full breakdown for this project, visualising each adjustment made in Nuke. As you can see I added graffiti to the door on the right to further link to the model of the car which I preceded to integrate and colour grade. I also completed a clean-up of the window and removed this from the shot as it was a distracting area. I took on the task of integrating my CG car into the scene, including the shadow pass and grading each separate render layer to achieve the most photorealistic result. Finally, I regraded the colour of the cones to match the colours within the scene and replaced the sky to match.
